Social Quality of Urban Life in a Balad City
Main Article Content
Abstract
Urban environment assessment and urban quality analysis are essential tools for urban planning, as urban planning processes seek to find a balance between the city's multiple functions and improve the quality of life of its residents by supporting and improving urban conditions to enhance sustainability opportunities. The current study aims to assess the current status of some aspects related to the quality of life in Balad in order to provide a database that is useful in preparing appropriate development policies. The study relied on measuring a set of objective indicators directly related to urban planning in analyzing the quality of life, while relying on the field study and its tools in processing urban indicators. The main results of the study focused on verifying the hypotheses related to the impact of economic and social aspects on the quality of life in the city, and reached a disparity in the levels of quality of life at the level of the city's neighborhoods. The family size factor, which amounted to (5.9), had an impact on increasing the burdens on family expenses, which created an additional factor which is the pressure of the population on the income and the decline in the economic and living standard of the family. The study also found that families whose spending level is less than 350 thousand dinars occupied the first place at a rate of (49.1%) of the total families in the city. It means that nearly half of the city's families do not exceed the rate of the monthly spending is more than this amount, which is a large percentage compared to other levels of monthly spending, and this gives an image that the urban poverty rate is high.
