Place in Subat Ibn Al-Taawidhi’s Poetry (d584): The War Place as a Model
Main Article Content
Abstract
Saladin Ayyubi engaged in numerous battles after preparing to confront the Crusaders and wage a jihad that he had been preparing for an entire decade. This was after he had eliminated all spies and traitors within the Arab interior, in addition to the preparations and training exercises undertaken by the army to await the opportune moment for such an endeavor. The provocative policy of Reginald of Châtillon served as a mere pretext for Saladin to declare war on the Crusaders, as if it had been handed to him on a silver platter.
The battles fought by Saladin Ayyubi were immortalized in Arabic poetry with golden letters, as they employed those battles with beautiful meanings and words that stirred the enthusiasm of the fighters and ignited the jihadist spirit within them. Through this, they wrote the most epic tales of heroism, and this would not have occurred without the presence of wise leadership embodied in the person of Saladin Ayyubi, whose sole preoccupation was the liberation of Arab and Islamic lands from the clutches of the Crusaders, who had spread corruption throughout the lands of the Muslims. The Muslims had been preparing for this fateful war, which the brave commander had plunged into, resulting in the enemies in those battles being forced to retreat in defeat before the army of Saladin Ayyubi.
