Theater's Role in Reducing School Dropout

Abstract
The problem of the study is formulated through the following two questions: What are the most prominent causes of school dropout among secondary school students? What is the role of theatrical activity in reducing this phenomenon? The study aims to identify the causes of school dropout, which are most present among secondary school students in Baghdad. The study sample is composed of secondary school students from the General Directorate of Education of Baghdad, Karkh II, for the academic year 2023-2024. The study population comprised 240 female students from Zarqa Al-Yamama High School for Girls, with a sample size of 32, representing 12% of the total population. The research instruments were designed to identify the factors influencing students' intentions to discontinue their studies, utilizing a three-point scale comprising options of yes, sometimes, and no. The second tool assessed the effectiveness of theater in reducing leakage through a pre- and post-intervention questionnaire consisting of 17 items measured on a three-point scale (yes, sometimes, no). The results were as follows: The post-questionnaire scores indicate a higher performance among female students compared to their tribal counterparts, thereby affirming the effectiveness of theater in facilitating reductions.
