Abstract

The issue of energy is one of the main topics that dominates international politics, as it plays a pivotal role in shaping the foreign policies of countries, whether exporting or importing, due to being the heart of the global economy. For this reason, countries are keen to take all necessary measures to preserve energy resources and ensure continued investment in them in order to secure their interests in all its dimensions. The aim of this study is to analyze the energy reality between Russia and Europe in the light of the Ukrainian crisis, by reviewing the perceptions of exporting and importing countries about their energy security and the dynamics of energy interdependence between Russia and the EU. The study assumes that the Russian-Ukrainian war negatively affects the energy security of Europe as a result of the EU countries ' heavy dependence on Russian energy supplies passing through Ukraine. The importance of the research comes from the need to analyze the repercussions of this crisis on European energy security and how to face future challenges. The power analysis approach was adopted to study the impact of the crisis on Russian-European relations and its economic and political repercussions. The results of the study showed the need to reduce Europe's dependence on Russian energy by diversifying supply sources, in addition, international sanctions on Russia led to a reassessment of its energy export strategies.
