Abstract
Imaginative Scenario Building Strategy is a creative strategy that can be used for teaching some of creative skills to EFL students. This study aims at finding out: whether using imaginative scenario building strategy can develop university students’ critical thinking in short story; whether there is any significant difference at recognition and production levels of experimental group students in the Post-test and whether there is any significant difference among creative thinking variables include “originality, decision making, imagination, reasoning, problem- solving, and reflection” of the experimental group students’ achievement in the post- test. A sample of 170 students have been randomly selected from university of Tikrit / College of Education for Humanities in second year during the academic year 2023- 2024. The students have been divided into two equal groups ,i.e., the experimental and control groups with 85 students in each group. Both groups have been equalized in their age and their degrees in English language subjects in the previous stage of the academic year 2022 2023.The experimental group has been taught according to the imaginative scenario building strategy, while the control group has been taught by applying the conventional method. An achievement post- test has been constructed ,validated ,and applied to the two groups. The study results show that using Imaginative Scenario Building Strategy is benefit for developing university students’ creative thinking in short story than the conventional method. Finally, the study ends up with some conclusions, recommendations and suggestions for other researches.
