Abstract

Tunisia's relationship with the United States of America is a very good relationship, and it is important to both countries, as it dates back hundreds of years, and this is what made Tunisia a strong ally, especially after the United States maintained an official representation almost continuously since 1795 AD, and despite that, no security agreements were signed between them, but this relationship was exposed to some tensions following the Israeli attack on Hammam al-Shatt, in which Tunisia threatened the United States to sever its relations with it, if it supported the Zionist entity, and indeed it achieved what it wanted. Relations between the two countries returned, sometimes Tunisia agreed with the United States on some political and military decisions regarding Arab issues, such as the Second Gulf War and the invasion of Iraq, and other times it disagreed with it, and this was regarding the Palestinian issue represented by the Palestine Liberation Organization. The United States of America provided political support to Tunisia when it recognized its independence, supported human rights inside and outside Tunisia, and provided it with military and financial support in the fight against terrorism after 2001. It approved the statement issued by Tunisia regarding the Islamic awakening that the country witnessed at the beginning of that year, and it also provided it with military equipment and financial aid.
