Abstract

Middle age index of urban people in Salah al-Din Governorate varied geographically by administrative unit from 1997 to 2023, and the tendencies of this change occurred. This metamorphosis captures the issue and its sub-questions. The Middle age index reflected changes of population demographics and age structure . The population policy following the eight-year Iran-Iraq war increased the birth rate in the eighties and had an impact on the age structure of the population until the end of the nineties. It affected the median population age when reported. Index low point was 1997 (17 years). In 2009, the prior population strategy lost power and there was no defined population policy. Despite the challenging circumstances of the siege in the 1990s and occupation, the population has shifted towards family planning, leading to a rise in the median age index to 19.5 years in the urban area of the study. Several variables caused the median age index growth in 2023, including its continuance. The population growth rate dropped from 3.2 in 2009 to 2.5 in 2023. Low population fertility and youth mobility may explain this. Age following 2014 ISIS terrorist attacks, 19.75 years, till urban girls reached 20 years.
