Geographical Distribution of Agricultural Land Uses in Dijla Sub-district for the Year 2019
Main Article Content
Abstract
The present study deals with the geographical distribution of agricultural land uses in the study area (Tigris sub-district) for the year 2019 according to the agricultural provinces. It was found that there is a discrepancy in the areas cultivated with agricultural crops between the provinces, and this is due to the variation also in the area of agricultural provinces and the variation of their natural and human conditions and the life affecting it, as cereal crops, especially wheat, occupied the largest area among the rest of the other crops, amounting to (101, 625 acres), then came vegetables, fodder and horticulture crops. As for livestock, they witnessed a disparity in their breeding between provinces, which was evident through the study that breeding sheep is active in the western provinces of the study area, which is characterized by the flatness of the land, the spaciousness of space and its suitability for grazing animals, especially in the rainy season. The raising of buffaloes has also witnessed the confinement of their breeding to three provinces in order to provide some suitable conditions for their presence. The study recommends working on the existence of a supportive policy by the state towards farmers and livestock breeders in order to advance the agricultural reality through material and moral support, as well as to go to the protection of agricultural products by preventing the import of agricultural crops at times of local availability, in order to secure food for population and increase the area cultivated with food crops and animal products such as meat and dairy.
