Critical Thinking among University Students

Abstract
The current research aims to identify the level of critical thinking among university students. Statistically significant differences in critical thinking according to the gender variable (male and female) are found and according to the specialization variable (scientific - humanities). In order to achieve the objectives of the current research, the researchers adopted the Critical Thinking Scale (Fasion, 1994), which consisted of (38) items distributed over seven areas: (the search for truth, mental openness, analytical, methodology, self-confidence, curiosity, and cognitive maturity) and after extracting the characteristics, the psychometric scale of validity, stability and discrimination was applied to the main research sample consisting of (300) male and female students, as the number of males was (177) and the number of females (123), distributed according to the following variables: (gender, scientific and human specialization
The current research reached the following results: Tikrit University students have a good level of critical thinking. There are no statistically significant differences between the sexes in all domains and the scale as a whole. There are no statistically significant differences in critical thinking and its fields between the scientific and human specializations. In order to complete the intended benefit of the current research, the researchers presented a number of recommendations and proposals, including spreading a culture of constructive criticism in society through its various institutions to raise the level of critical thinking.
