Abstract

This study deals with life and death in Abi Al-Atahiya poetry. The poet went through two phases:the life of an insane person, and he used to love life and say poetry is about life’s pleasures and pleasures, and its desire for it
and aversion to death, especially in his romantic attempts, and striving to reach his beloved, that is why he was optimistic.
And after his coming to Baghdad and his association with caliphs and immorality, he did not reach his goal especially after the failure of his love for (Aotba) the wife of the Caliph al-Mahd, the world turned against him and he became frustrated and changed his idea of life this was clearly reflected in his poems. He began to say poetry in denouncing life in this series of failed attempts he continues to look with a pessimistic view of life at this stage. So, he resorted to asceticism and accepting death in life. Perhaps the poet has matured his thoughts because of his experiences of life, because experiences are not for regret but for learning, the poet went through life experiences with their sweetness and their bitterness by himself, The poet was more preoccupied with the issue of death and life until he reached the stage of asceticism in his life.
