Geographical Analysis of Traffic Accidents in the city of Amara
Main Article Content
Abstract
The research aims to identify traffic accidents, their causes, and the most important natural elements affecting the occurrence of traffic accidents, as well as finding possible solutions to reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents in the study area. The study relied on the descriptive and analytical approach, as the study reached continuous verification of the safety of vehicles and the availability of durability conditions. Safety is achieved through annual inspections, sudden inspections of vehicles, strict enforcement of traffic laws, and punishment of violators. Programs for traffic awareness must also be followed up and developed to ensure the reduction of traffic accidents. It is necessary to repair all bumps and potholes on the roads immediately and quickly, while re-paving some of the poorly paved roads as quickly as possible, as this causes traffic congestion and traffic accidents. The study found that the highest percentage of those involved in accidents within the city were males, who constituted (91.5%) of the total, compared to females, who constituted (8.5%) of the total number of accidents. The number of traffic accidents also increased significantly from 2010 to 2022, reaching their highest total in 2022, where they constituted (370) accidents, and this was accompanied by an increase in the number of injuries, as their total reached (540) injuries for the same year.
