Abstract

The current research aims to identify the effect of the constructive approach on the achievement of the second intermediate grade students in social studies and the development of their high-ranking thinking. In order to verify the aims of the study, the following hypotheses were put forward:   The first main hypothesis is that there is no statistically significant difference between the average scores of students of the first experimental group who study social studies using the constructive approach model and the average scores of the second control group who study according the traditional method in the achievement test. The second main hypothesis is that there is no statistically significant difference between the mean scores of students of the experimental group who study social studies using the constructivist approach model and the mean scores of students of the control group who study using the traditional method in the high-ranking thinking test. The researchers used the experimental method and chose the experimental design with equal groups with a pre and post test. The study population consisted of students of the second intermediate grade in intermediate schools affiliated to the General Directorate of Education of Salah al-Din Governorate / Tikrit / Al-Bu Ajil for the academic year (2018-2019) for the purpose of applying the experiment. The sample of the study was (65) students. They were divided into two experimental and control groups, where the number of the experimental group was (22) students who studied according to the constructivist-oriented model, and the number of the control group was (23) students who studied according to the traditional method. The two researchers reached the following results:-The students of the experimental group who studied the subject using the (structural approach) model excelled over the control group who studied the sociology subject using the (traditional method) in the achievement test of the social subject.-The students of the experimental group who studied social studies using the (constructivist approach) model outperformed their colleagues in the control group who studied in the usual way in the high-ranking thinking test.
