Main Article Content
Abstract
The Syrian lands, especially the Alexandretta district, which had an important vital and strategic center, witnessed a colonial struggle between the major countries, which led to the emergence of international competition, and each country was seeking to achieve its interests in this vital region of the world and because of its clear impact and important role in the global economy and trade After France took control of Syria, Turkey began to approach France and conclude agreements with it in order to reach its real goal, which is to seize the Alexandretta district. After long negotiations between the two sides and after the French side realized that its interests require rapprochement with Turkey, an agreement was reached with Turkey and it ceded the district to Turkey in 1939, with the blessing of the League of Nations. With the end of World War II 1939-1945 AD, the issue of Alexandretta came back to existence again, and the great powers tried to annex those lands, but the matter was settled and the brigade remained under Turkish influence, but despite all that and after Syria gained its independence by a UN resolution, it was recognized With this independence by many countries, including Turkey, the Syrian people and the Syrian national forces are still looking forward to restoring their national rights in this brigade.
