Means of Irrigation in ALRashidy Era in the Middle East
Main Article Content
Abstract
The provision of water and the various irrigation techniques employed in crop cultivation constitute a crucial aspect of a nation's agricultural practices, as well as contributing significantly to the formation and sustenance of communities. Devoid of it, their existence would be rendered meaningless. The methods employed for irrigating crops in the Middle Eastern regions of Egypt, the Levant, Iraq, and the Arabian Peninsula were influenced by the distinct variations in geography, temperature, and precipitation levels across these areas. Following the Islamic expansions led by the Righteous Caliphs in the Middle East, the destruction of irrigation systems had a detrimental impact on the country's economy. Upon the resolution of the prevailing circumstances, the Righteous Caliphs expeditiously recognized the necessity of rectifying the pre-existing irrigation systems and initiating novel ones. The individuals exhibited a keen interest in water systems, which serve as the fundamental underpinning of agriculture and are a requisite component for the irrigation of agricultural lands. The Rashidun irrigation initiatives were discussed, with an emphasis on their function in irrigating agricultural land and their impact on the national economy.
