Abstract

The University of Al-Qarawiyyin is a development of the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque, which was built in the city of Fez in the year 225 AH/859 AD, which was the first capital of the first independent political entity in Morocco.

In terms of civilization, the university is considered one of the most prominent intellectual landmarks that emerged in the Arab Maghreb along with other educational institutions in the Islamic East, such as the House of Wisdom, Al-Mustansiriya University, Kufa University in Iraq, and Al-Azhar University in Egypt The history of the University of Al-Qarawiyyin was linked to the political history of Morocco, as the university played a major role in supporting and crystallizing the political system, because it represented the legitimacy of any ruler or sultan who ruled the country. It held many positions in the political and military fields from leaders, ministers and even sultans, as they had a great impact in the history of the country to the present time, and accordingly we can describe the University of Al-Qarawiyyin as representing the history of the Far Morocco, because of its political, educational, religious and civilized impact that formed the important aspects of country history.
