Abstract

The current research aims to identify the effect of teaching mathematics in the Department of Civil Engineering / First Stage according to visual thinking networks of the students’ spatial ability, which in turn enables them to understand its various components, shapes, and relationships that affect each other.

Visual thinking is defined as a type of thinking that may stimulate the learner’s mind by using visual stimuli in order to perceive a relationship between mathematical information and knowledge, assimilate it, represent it and organize it, and then integrate it into his cognitive structure while matching it with the previous experiences he possesses.

The research sample consisted of equal groups of (60) male and female students, one of them was an experimental that studied mathematics according to the visual thinking networks (VTN) and the other is a control study of the same subject according to the usual method. The two researchers adopted the Purdue test for spatial ability that is suitable for engineering students. The statistical packages program (SPSS) was used in analyzing the data and arriving at results.
