Abstract

The research has revealed the status of Al-Raghib Al-Asfahani in the fields of language, literature, interpretation and ethics, concentrating on his efforts in writing a lexicon that contains the utterances of the Noble Quran and showing his approach in explaining the meanings of the utterances. He arranged his lexicon alphabetically according to the first letters of the utterances, taking into account the original root letters without affixes, and mentioning derivatives of the utterances.

The research has shown the meanings of the utterances that we did not get, i.e. that they didn't reach us, maybe due to script copiers or to the inability of reaching the original book by the codifiers. The book did not include fifteen Quranic utterances which are: "ألت", "خردل", "زبن", "زلم", "سفح", "غوط", "فني", "قدو", "قرش", "كلح", "ملق", "نضح", "هلع", "هيل", and "وأد".

The research was divided into two sections: the first tackled a brief account about the author and his book and the second explained the meanings of the utterances under investigation; in addition to an introduction and a concluding section in which the most important results were mentioned.
