Abstract

The events that took place in Tunisia during 1978-1980 AD were among the most important events due to the weakness of the ruling Socialist Party, whose leaders at the top of the political hierarchy were exploited.  This matter increased, especially after the radical attemptes against President Habib Bourguiba in 1962 AD, and the prevention of other parties from his participation in successive governments. This was related to the fact that the party took control of all the joints of the state, and it was known that there were oppositional parties that were calling for freedom and democracy in the country. As such Essebsi held a position opposing the government's actions, and demanded a radical change in  policy.
