Abstract

Iraq suffered from the ravages of terrorism, after its occupation in 2003 by the United States of America and its allies, and this led to the spread of armed groups, and Iraq has witnessed various and continuous terrorist operations that received extensive and intense media coverage from the media and of various types of print, audio and visual that had their effects. Large and clear inside Iraqi society.
The research aimed to identify the reality of the roles of Iraqi press institutions in facing the actions of terrorist organizations (Al-Qaeda and ISIS), and their role in forming citizen awareness regarding the activities of these organizations, and efforts to combat them.The study belongs to the field of descriptive research that aims to describe the research problem related to the phenomenon of terrorist organizations in Iraq, and the method was employed within the framework of using the survey method of the Scientific Library to monitor perceptions of the contents of terrorist organizations presented in Iraqi press institutions.
The study reached a number of conclusions:
1- The press has greatly contributed to building and forming trends, especially with the big crises and problems, and the growing desire of the public for the media to know its details, which indicates the great importance of these means towards terrorist incidents.
2- Failure to investigate the accuracy and credibility of many media outlets, including newspapers, in the process of transmitting and processing news of terrorist organizations, which causes citizens to spread terror, fear and panic without feeling the slightest social responsibility for what this news leaves in the issuance of its followers.
