Abstract
The research (Quantitative and Qualitative Trends in Livestock Development in Iraq for the Period 2014-2024) aims to uncover the reality of livestock in Iraq for the period (2014-2024) by studying animals (cows, buffalo, sheep, and goats), as well as identifying the most important problems facing livestock, whether they are natural, human, or biological problems, with the aim of arriving at appropriate solutions and improving the status of livestock. By adopting the regional approach, which showed the importance of spatial variation in livestock in the Iraqi governorates, and the descriptive and analytical approach, which focused on the types of livestock in the study area, the research reached a number of conclusions. The research revealed the numerical development of livestock in terms of the percentage of change between the years (2014-2024), after the total number of livestock reached (9,735,689) heads in 2014, their numbers developed after that to reach (11,300,376) heads in 2024, with a relative change of (16.07%). As for the geographical distribution of livestock for the year 2024, sheep ranked first with (7,331,400) heads, which constitutes (64.87%) of the total animals in Iraq, and cows ranked second with (2,213,282) heads, which constitutes (19.58%) of the total animals, and goats ranked third with (1,485,847) heads, which constitutes (13.14%), and buffaloes ranked last with (269,859) heads, which constitutes (2.38%) of the total animals in the study area. The research concluded with a set of problems that livestock suffer from, as the problem of lack of feed and treatment topped the problems, with percentages of (70.7, 74.40, 56.5, 71.30)%, for cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats, respectively, of the total problems. As for the rest, the lack of pastures, price fluctuations, animal disease, government support and genetic diseases occupied different percentages. Among livestock species in the study area.
