Meanings of the Fa in the Commentary of Sharif al-Jurjani (d. 816 AH) on Al-Kashshaf by Al-Zamakhshari (d. 538 AH): A Grammatical Study
Main Article Content
Abstract
It is well known that Arabic is a branch of the Semitic language family, and it is the language in which the Holy Quran was revealed. It serves as a means and a bond for Muslims to understand the meanings of Allah's Book, the hadiths of His Prophet (peace be upon him), and other Arabic books such as those on jurisprudence, exegesis, history, literature, and various other works written in this language.
As Muslims, we must delve deeply into the verses of the Holy Quran to fully grasp Allah's guidance for His servants. Therefore, we must learn the Arabic language in both general and specific terms. An indispensable aspect of Arabic language sciences is grammar (nahw). It examines Arabic words in terms of their composition, usage, and other aspects related to the structure and organization of Arabic speech. In other words, the topics of grammar are the issues related to the principles and rules used in organizing Arabic words to produce eloquent speech that conforms to grammatical rules.
Among the topics in grammar is the use of the letter "fa" (ف) in Arabic language styles. Based on the background mentioned above, this writing aims to highlight important issues related to the meanings of this letter, as discussed in Al-Sharif Al-Jurjani's marginal notes on Al-Zamakhshari's "Al-Kashshaf."
