Abstract

Digital maps, which are defined as maps designed by cartographers using electronic computers and relying on various software to prepare, store, display, and update maps with ease in the future (Al-Okaidi, 2005, p. 50), play a prominent role in human sciences. Some consider them a fundamental basis of geography. Digital distribution maps (thematic cartography) are one of the most prominent types. They are defined as maps that represent the applied distribution of one or more geographic topics, relying on the cartographic base in map drawing and choosing one of the quantitative or qualitative distribution methods, including suitable symbols and colors (Aziz, n.d., p. 17).

The researcher used the graphic map method (columns) in his study, followed by the areal shading method, which includes two types: color gradation (chorochromatic) and shape gradation (choroschematic).

Through cartographic representation, we find that quarter 891 in Al-Jihad was characterized by population concentration during the study period (1997, 2009, 2020), while the least populated quarters were quarter 881 in Al-Jihad and quarter 897 in Badr.

Regarding the studied densities, several results emerged, the most important of which is that some quarters maintained their density despite the difference in density type (general, urban, population). Quarter 881 remained among the low-density quarters, while quarters 889, 891, and 895 remained among the high-density quarters.
