Abstract

Since the Ottoman conquest of Aleppo in 1516, the city witnessed significant commercial prosperity, becoming a major economic hub within the Ottoman Empire. Aleppo's strategic location at the crossroads of trade routes between East and West made it a key center for the trade of various goods such as spices, textiles, metals, and silk. In the 17th. century, Aleppo became closely integrated into the international trade network, attracting merchants from Europe and Asia. Aleppo's markets were renowned for their diversity, and the city emerged as a center for the exchange of goods between the Ottoman Empire and Europe. The commercial relationships between Aleppo and European cities contributed to the growth and expansion of trade. By the second half of the 18th. century, however, Aleppo's commercial significance began to gradually decline due to several factors, including changes in international trade routes, the shift of economic power to other regions, and economic and political crises within the Ottoman Empire.
