Abstract

The current research aims to identify the level of self-evaluations and the level of cognitive competence among educational counselors.  It aims, further, to identify the significance of the difference in the level of self-evaluations and the level of cognitive competence among educational counselors according to the gender variable (males - females).  In addition, it aims to identify the correlation between self-evaluations and cognitive competence. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher adopted Judge et al.’s scale to measure basic self-evaluations and  to build a measure of cognitive competence. The researcher applied the two measures to the research sample, that consits of  of (200) male and female mentor, and used appropriate statistical methods to analyze the data with the help of the Statistical Portfolio for Social Psychological Sciences, the results of the research showed the following: 


- Educational counselors have a high level of self-evaluations.


- The sample members of educational counselors has cognitive competence.


- There are no statistically significant differences in both (self-evaluations and cognitive competence) among educational counselors according to the gender variable (males - females).


- There is a positive and direct correlation between self-evaluations and the cognitive competence of educational counselors.
