Comprehending Ideas among Children Aged (3-7) Years: An Explorative Study
Main Article Content
Abstract
The primary objective of the present research is to ascertain the developmental stage at which children are capable of comprehending the form and content of an idea drawing, specifically in relation to the age at which this understanding occurs. Furthermore, variations in comprehension exist based on the factors of age and gender. The present study encompasses a research sample of children between the ages of 3 and 7, totaling 100 participants. The sample is evenly distributed throughout five age groups (3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 years), with one kid representing each age group. The participants are equally split between men and females and are drawn from nurseries, kindergartens, and primary schools located in the city of Tikrit. The researcher selected a total of five nurseries for the study. The study used a sample of three years of kindergarten, specifically targeting children aged between four and five years. Similarly, the researcher used a random selection method to choose five years of elementary schools catering to children aged between six and seven years. The research yielded the following findings: The age at which comprehension occurs. The concept of an idea drawing, namely in the form of an idea bubble, may be understood in terms of its shape. The findings indicated that youngsters at the age of 3.5 years could not demonstrate any accurate understanding of the concept of representing thoughts or ideas via the use of a visual symbol, often known as a "thought bubble" or "idea bubble." The age at which an individual comprehends the symbolic representation of an idea via the act of sketching, specifically in the form of an idea bubble, in relation to its content. The findings indicated that a total of eight youngsters, all of whom were three years old, had an accurate response rate of 40%. Regarding children who are four years old: Out of the total sample size of 16 participants, 80% accurately identified the thoughts of the character. Specifically, children aged 7, 6, and 5 years old achieved a perfect score of 100% in providing right responses.
