The Yemeni Civil War in 1994
Main Article Content
Abstract
The civil war in Yemen May - July 1994, is a war that broke out between the government of Yemen in Sana'a and members of the Yemeni Socialist Party, to demand the secession of South Yemen from North Yemen. The result of the war was the defeat of the armed forces of South Yemen and the flight of most of the leaders of the Yemeni Socialist Party and other separatists.
Haider Abu Bakr al-Attas, Prime Minister of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen continued as Prime Minister, but his government was ineffective due to infighting. Continuous negotiations between the leaders in the north and south resulted in the signing of the Covenant and Agreement document in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on February 20, 1994. Despite this, the clashes intensified until the civil war broke out in early May 1994.
