Abstract

The aim of the research is to identify the level of family counseling skills among teachers of special education centers in Dohuk Governorate, and the significance of the differences in that according to the variables: the type of center, age and gender. The research relied on the comparative descriptive approach, and the sample consisted of (106) male and female teachers who were intentionally chosen from the governmental and private special education centers in the city of Dohuk. Those on whom the scale of family counseling skills was applied, which was prepared for the purposes of the current research, after verifying the indications of its validity and reliability, which consisted of (62) items distributed over (11) skills. The data were treated statistically using Pearson's correlation coefficient, Alpha Cronbach's equation, one-sample t-test, two independent samples, and one-way analysis of variance. The results showed that the level of family counseling skills among the respondents was low, and no significant differences appeared according to the variables of center type, age, and gender. In light of the results, a number of recommendations and proposals were presented.
