Women in the Perspectives and Life of the Byzantine Historian Michael Psellus (409-471 AH / 1018-1078 AD)

Abstract
Michael Psellus, a prominent fifth-century AH/eleventh-century AD Byzantine historian and philosopher, is regarded as one of the most influential Byzantine historians and philosophers of his time. He became famous in Constantinople for his wisdom and encyclopedic knowledge, which distinguished him from those writers in his generation till he became one of the brightest employees of the imperial court in Constantinople and worked for nine emperors of Byzantium, and he was in the orbit of the throne, and he reached this high position, and he had many reasons that denoted him to assume this position, including his eloquence as one of the most influential courtiers in the Byzantine court and a member of the imperial court, he included the works of the emperors. In addition, Psellus penned an elegy for his mother and daughter and left numerous letters and speeches that addressed many facets of his life and the life of his family, as well as the advantages and characteristics of the women in his household, which influenced what he recorded in his chronograph, about women in positions of power and palaces.
