Movement and Stillness in the Poetry of Ibn Hamdis 527 AH
Main Article Content
Abstract
The phenomenon of movement and stillness held a distinct place in Ibn Hamdis's poetry. This duality varied in many of the poet's texts, depending on its use in his poetry. It represented the dynamic and the still in his poetic texts. We find that the poet was influenced by the political, social, and cultural conditions of that era, reflecting the souls affected and interacting between change and stability. In Ibn Hamdis's poetry, movement and stillness take on many connotations, including that movement refers to life, ambition, and bliss, while stillness may symbolize calm, comfort, bliss, death, or contemplation. The research was based on an introduction that defined the concepts of movement and stillness linguistically and technically, and two chapters: The first represented movement in winds, rain, sunrise and sunset, and how it is a motivating factor for the poet through the poet's personal experience. The second represented stillness in stars, moons, sunrises, homes, and fixed places, with the psychological feelings they arouse, which can often be painful, stirring the poet's psyche and providing a major impetus for poetry. Then comes the conclusion and the research findings.
