Religion and its Effect on the Journey of Turkish Regime to the European Union
Main Article Content
Abstract
Religion represents one of the most important conflicts among societies. Turkey is a country which is characterized by the unity of religious dogma in that the majority of its population embrace the Islamic Religion. In spite of their difference in ethnic origins, it is not odd that Turkish identity is an obstacle towards their intellectual ambition of geographical affiliation to join the European Union (E.U.) because this will lead to ideological-historical imbalance that the European countries aims in determining their own frame. The title of “Religion and its Effect on the Journey of Turkish Regime to the European Union” has been selected for its intrinsic importance in the scope of study of the Turkish Regime journey phases towards the EU. The research includes three main sections. The first section displays the historical overview about religion and secularism in the Republic of Turkey since 1923. The second section deals with the Turkish attempts in the journey to join the EU. The third section sheds the light on the effect of religious factor on the attitude of the EU from the Turkish journey of joining. Although Turkey insists on moving forward in joining up the European Band which is still now controversial. It seems that Turkey was not welcomed to the European Union. Hence, the religious factor formed a big obstacle in this matter, particularly that Turkey has a history which served the Islam for a certain period at the expense of the European countries represented as the Ottoman State.
