The International Attitude towards the Fashoda Crisis and Its Impact on the Egyptian Attitude 1898-1899
Main Article Content
Abstract
England achieved its dream of controlling Egypt because of its strategic importance in extending its influence in the region. It was supported because of its influence and maintenance of its empires and colonies in the East, especially its presence in India. Its occupation of Egypt in 1882 is considered a great victory, at a time when its usurpation is a violation of the sanctity of another country from the point of view of its people. Because it was based on the violation of rights and was carried out with military force and destroyed its independence. One of the motives for this occupation, in addition to securing the protection of its colonies, was the economic gains it achieved and political gains when England began to apply its policy that serves its interests even if it was at the expense of the colonial countries. The Fashoda crisis occurred, which is the famous crisis that almost led to war between France and Britain at the expense of Egypt and Sudan.
