Gradual Ellipsis in the Glorious Quran: A Critic and Semantic Study
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ellipsis is a linguistic phenomenon which all human languages share but it is more familiar in some languages than others such as Arabic. This is because Arabic tends to be concise which gives power and richness to the utterances and gets it away from heaviness. Ibn Jinni considers this phenomenon as one of the aspects of Arabic language bravery in which the diactritic, the letter, the word, the sentence or even the speech might be ellipted. In Arabic, there are different types of ellipsis such as the ellipsis of a part of the word, one of the coordinated words, a part of the sentence not to repeat what is mentioned elsewhere, the vocative, etc. One of these types is called Hathf Al-Taddaruj (The Gradation Ellipsis) which is the cincern of the current resesrch. This type is mentioned by some grammaian, and Ibn Jinni assigned it to Abi Al-Hasan Al-Akhfash. Ibn Jinni considers it as one of the aesthetic devices that the grammarians have not ellaborated much on it. The research is entitled (Ellipsis on Gradation in the Glorious Qurʼan :A Syntactic Semantic Study). It is classified into an introduction , four sections and conclusions. The Introduction includes the concept of ellipsis in general and ellipsis on Gradation in specific, and the opinions of grammarians concerning it. Section one is entitled: the object which is replaced by the genetive, Section two is the pronoun of adjective, Section three is about when two genetives are ellipted, and section four is about when more that two genetives are ellipted. The most important conclusions are presented at the end of the research.
