''The Cultural Role of Samarra Region during Prehistory Times''

Abstract
Samarra region is one of the most important regions that has been characterized by its ancient history and civilization through the ages, as the region was distinguished by its cultural depth and ancient history which emerged from the chalcolithic period until the end of the Islamic period. It has witnessed many great achievement and developments in Iraq and the ancient East area through the emergence of many cultural elements, archaeological remains, influences and contributions to civilization, history and archaeology throughout its long history. This what constitutes an attractive factor for researchers, prospectors and archaeologists to study and explore the region and to show and clarify the importance of the elements of its cultural and historical components, which include the various eras that the region went through, especially the prehistoric period. The research included four main axis. The first axis included: The site and the natural environment of Samarra region represented by the site (Tell ES-Sawwan), while the second axis: dealt with the archaeological excavations that were carried out in the area and the layers of the site (Tell ES-Sawwan) and the most important discoveries and archaeological remains in it. The third axis include: pottery, which represented an important role of chalcolithic age in Iraq, known as (the role of Samarra), wherin the fourth axis included: the economy that existed in the region represented by its main pillars: agriculture and animal domestication, industry and barter operations.
