Main Article Content
Abstract
Archaeological buildings, with their different architectural styles and goals, are considered important pillars in archaeological studies, and even contribute to a very large extent in reaching archaeological discoveries. Documenting these buildings is very important, because they may be directly subject to demise and destruction due to climatic and geographical conditions, or destruction by humans, as happened for the selected model of the present study, namely the Shrine of Muhammad Sharaf al-Din. It was necessary for us to explain the importance of this building, its history, and its place in the Iraqi civilization. He mentioned in detail its elements, decorations and architectural features that were destroyed by the terrorist organization ISIS, as it sabotaged the historical and artistic identity and the subsequent events for everything related to this building, which is considered one of the archaeological anecdotes and religious because it is attached to an ethnic sect, as it cannot be replaced, as it is a wonderful product for humanity in general and the people of Iraq in a special and remarkable way. This study attempts to show how this building was subjected to be attacked, and to show its destruction by ISIS, whether it was completely damaged or parts of the building, or focusing on a specific thing of the building such as mihrabs and rare pulpits in mosques, or any architectural elements of buildings that may be non-Islamic, but they were in keeping with Islamic buildings. Rather, many elements share it in the method of construction and decoration, as we noted in the Ottoman era in the city of Mosul, with attached pictures of the two stages before and after to show the extent of the impact of these conditions for this building. The nature of this study necessitated dividing it into an introduction, two sections, and an appendix of diagrams and pictures related to the research: The first section includes a study of the site, history and planning of the aforementioned shrine targeted in the study, while the second section deals with the study of the devastation that befell it, then the conclusion came with the most important results reached by the researcher and the proposals that must be taken to restore maintenance and the precautions that must be followed in the maintenance operations and then the appendix Which included photos of the building included in the study.
