Abstract

The research seeks to assess the impact of the reciprocal teaching strategy on the reading comprehension skills of first-year intermediate school students in the subject of reading. The research sample consisted of female first-year middle school students at (Al-Nour Middle School for Girls), located in Kirkuk city, during the first semester of the year (2023-2024). There is a total of 63 female students. A group of 32 female students from Class A participated in an experiment where they used the reciprocal teaching strategy, while a control group of 31 female students from Class B followed the usual method of studying.
The researcher utilized an experimental approach and equivalence procedures to address the various variables among the research students. A test consisting of 40 items was developed, with each item divided into 10 paragraphs and four alternatives. The test was then reviewed and approved by experts in educational and psychological sciences, as well as Arabic language and teaching methods. Following the preparation of teaching plans and the necessary tools, the experiment was conducted during the first semester of the academic year 2023-2024, starting on Sunday, October 8, 2023, and concluding on Monday, December 18, 2023. Upon finishing the experiment, the researcher utilized the tool on the sample, gathered data, and conducted a statistical analysis. Based on the results, it was found that the experimental group, which used the reciprocal teaching strategy, performed significantly better than the control group that used the usual method of reading comprehension.
