Abstract

John Wycliffe was a reformist with keen scientific knowledge and a high moral standing. His vision was the touchstone of the religious deformational movement, not only in England but in all of western Europe. Wycliffe was a clergyman who understood the origins of the Christianity very well. As he had climbed the academic ladder at Oxford university, he’s been appointed as the admiral of its senior colleges. Step by step, he became close to the king, He became the chaplain of royal palace. As far he was supported and encouraged, John Wycliffe his opinions were publicly recognized despite his initial predilection for public policy in the country. However, in most of his opinions he went towards religious reform and his formational notion had directed him to produce a collection of sermonial English articles that contained a lot of discontent with the clergy men.
The articles were honest and courageous. Wycliffe became a symbol of intellectual freedom in England. Wycliffe’s message targeted not only the intellectual class, but the whole society. He called for religious sermonies in English rather than Latin—a matter which prompted him to adopt the project of translating the bible into English.
We can say that teachings of Wycliffe favored the nationalist English ethos, which explained how quickly they spread throughout the country, especially as they were an anti-papist.
