Abstract

The North African region enjoyed its important strategic geographical location, which made it an open theater for international conflicts to control this region, exploit its distinguished location, and harness its economic capabilities to serve its direct and indirect goals.

The United States of America realized these facts, and inherited the colonial role of France and Britain and tried as much as possible to benefit from the lessons of these two former colonial countries by devising a new indirect strategy, especially after World War II 1945, by establishing military bases in them to be a cornerstone for use as a means of pressure on the Libyan government for the purpose of its economic hegemony to achieve the greatest benefit, and the US presence in Libya continued even after Libya gained its independence in 1959, when the new government was bound by agreements in order to maintain its continued existence.

The research reached a number of results, which can be summarized as follows: the location of Libya in North Africa, as it represents a link between the Mediterranean basin and the Soviet Union on the one hand, and between Africa and Europe on the other hand, has helped in the strategic importance of Libya, with which the ambitions of the great powers, foremost of which have increased, i.e., United States of America.
