The Attitude of the Syrian Jewish Community on the Zionist Movement and Immigration to Palestine
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Jews lived on the land of Syria for many ages, just like the rest of the sects of Syrian society. Throughout the ages, Syria has been characterized by religious tolerance. The Jews penetrated the Syrian society, spoke its language, and adopted many of its customs, while at the same time they preserved their traditions, beliefs and mother tongue that were used in their religious rituals.
The Jews of Syria were affected by the changes that occurred in the twentieth century, especially the political aspect that played a role in changing their economic and social conditions. The year 1917 witnessed the issuance of the Balfour Declaration, which had a great impact on the Jews in general and the Jews of Syria in particular.
With the advent of 1948 and the declaration of the establishment of the State of Israel, the beginning of the Arab-Israeli war, and the ensuing intensification of the clash between Arabs and Jews, especially after the June 1967 war, it had a great impact on the Jews of Syria in particular, and this paper tries to give a clear picture of the attempts of Zionist penetration in Syria, and his attempt to migrate the Jews of Syria to Israel.
