Abstract

Hikmat Abu Zayd is represented as the leading Egyptian woman in all political, social, and economic fields. When she was chosen to be the first female minister in Egypt in 1962 by President, Gamal Abdel-Nasser, this choice was not arbitrarily or without prior thinking.  She has achieved great works in order to promote the social reality of Egypt. She adopted many projects when she introduced the Ministry of Social Affairs to serve as a Ministry for the Family and Society. Among the most important projects were these which change the Law of Social Security that was legitimated in 1950, and then the issuance of the Associations Law in 1964 within the Constitution of the same year. In addition to projects, that still exist to this day, her efforts are represented by the projects of rural women and Productive families. She has the credit in managing the process of the consequences of the displacement of  Nuba, which lasted for a whole year.In addition,  she achieved many other projects such, as the Alternative Families Project and juvenile sponsorship project, through which she tried to find better opportunities for the Egyptian child to live.
